Why the Name Tallgrass Land & Learning

Tallgrass Land & Learning expands access to nature-based, land-based, and community-rooted learning opportunities for children and families. We believe meaningful learning happens not only inside classrooms, but also on prairies, in gardens, alongside animals, and through hands-on experiences that help children build curiosity, confidence, practical skills, and a connection to the natural world.

One of the ways Tallgrass increases access is through scholarships that help children participate in nature-based and outdoor learning programs. We prioritize reducing financial barriers for families and expanding opportunities for children who may thrive in smaller, more flexible, or alternative learning environments, including children with diverse learning, behavioral, and developmental needs.

Tallgrass also supports the creation and expansion of land-based educational opportunities. This may include outdoor classrooms, gardens, agricultural experiences, environmental exploration, seasonal programs, nature play, community events, and the materials and infrastructure needed to make these experiences possible.

Our work extends beyond a single program or property. Tallgrass seeks to build partnerships with schools, educators, community organizations, landowners, and other local partners to create more opportunities for children to learn through meaningful connection to the land. As we grow, we also hope to develop practical resources and curriculum that can help educators and communities bring nature-based and place-based learning into their own settings.
